Privacy Policy
Helm is designed with a local-first model. Your hosts content remains on your Mac unless you explicitly use network features.
Data Helm processes
Helm may process the following data while you use the app:
- Hosts file content you create or edit
- Local app settings (for example, font size, sync interval, enabled files)
- File access permissions/bookmarks required by macOS sandboxing
- Snapshot history for restore functionality
Network usage
Helm uses network access only for feature workflows you trigger or enable:
- Remote subscriptions: Fetching hosts content from URLs you add
- Diagnostics: DNS/connection checks (such as
nslookup, dig, and TCP checks) - Update check: Querying App Store version metadata
Helm does not require account login to use core functionality.
Storage and retention
- Helm stores data locally on your device (sandboxed path:
~/Library/Containers/com.w3cmm.Helm/Data/Library/Helm/). - Snapshot retention is configurable in Preferences (max snapshot count).
- You can delete files or snapshots at any time.
Data sharing
Helm does not sell your personal data.
When using remote subscriptions or diagnostics, network requests are sent to the target services you choose (for example, subscription URLs or DNS endpoints) as required for those features.
Policy updates
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Significant changes will be reflected in the updated policy content.
